Java
Our Java blend is among the lightest roasts in our repertoire. The slightly nutty taste suits filter machines and French press (cafetiere) coffee makers, as well as larger espresso machines. Although the blend is light roasted and designed to give a smooth, creamy finish, the coffee is still rich and full of flavour. It drinks particularly well with milk and is a great favourite for cappuchinos and cafe lattes. The smooth finish is a result of careful selection of complementary bean varieties and very meticulous roasting. We roast our Java blend at a few degrees cooler and for a few minutes longer than other similar coffees as this gives us smoothness and delicacy without adding any trace of oiliness. We use only our smaller 23kg roaster for Java. For some odd reason that we've never been able to discern, we don't get the same results from our larger 40kg roaster. Even though the temperature is the same, the airflow and and all conditions are identical, Java just doesn't taste as good if it isn't done in the small roaster.

The origins are all South American. The beans are Brazilian, Bolivian and Peruvian, and the quantities vary slightly from season to season, depending on the crop. Apart from its smoothness and taste, our Java blend is enormously versatile and makes consistently excellent coffee across a range of machine types.  It is also very forgiving of uneven water quality and variances in barista technique.
